BKT β-Ketone Test Strip, when used together with the TD-4279 β-Ketone & Blood Glucose Monitoring System, allows your β-Ketone levels to be measured by yourself at home. BKT Blood Ketone Test Strips measures from 0.1 mmol/L ~ 8.0 mmol/L. The β-Ketone readings deliver plasma equivalent results and are displayed in millimoles of ketone per liter of blood (mmol/L).
The β-Ketone test measures Beta-Hydroxybutyrate (β -OHB), the most important of the three β-Ketone bodies in the blood.
Normally, levels of β -OHB are expected to be less than 0.6 mmol/L. β -OHB levels may increase if a person fasts, exercises vigorously or has diabetes and becomes ill. If your β-Ketone result is "Lo", repeat the β-Ketone test with new test strips. If the same message appears again or the result does not reflect how you feel, contact your healthcare professional.
Precision: ≤1mmol/L, SD<0.1mM; 1mmo/L, CV<7.5%
Reaction time: Results in 10 seconds
** COMPATIBLE WITH U-Right, iCARE, SUGARCHEK, and ketomojo TD-4279 METERS.
How do I tell if I have a TD-4279 meter?
Your meter will look like the image below, and usually say TD-4279 on the front or back of the meter.

Ketone testing takes the guesswork out of understanding what's happening inside the body. Instead of wondering, hoping, or relying on how things feel - testing provides a clear answer in 10 seconds.
WHAT ARE KETONES?
Ketones are produced when the body burns fat for fuel instead of carbohydrates. The liver creates them, and they become the primary energy source during fasting, carbohydrate restriction, or when the body can't use glucose effectively. Beta-hydroxybutyrate (BHB) is the main ketone in the blood - and the one that matters most for accurate measurement.
SOME REASONS PEOPLE TEST:
Following a Ketogenic Diet
Ketone testing shows whether the body has shifted into ketosis - the fat-burning state that makes keto work. Without testing, it's impossible to know for sure. Some foods that seem "safe" can quietly knock ketosis off track. Testing reveals what's actually working and what isn't, making it easier to adjust and stay in the zone. It's also the best way to measure progress during fasting - seeing ketone levels rise provides real proof that deeper fat-burning is happening.
Monitoring as Part of a Diabetes Program
Some people monitor ketones in addition to blood glucose as part of a diabetes management routine. A healthcare provider can advise when and how often to test based on individual circumstances.
BLOOD TESTING VS. OTHER METHODS:
Blood Testing
Measures beta-hydroxybutyrate (BHB) - the primary ketone body and the most accurate indicator of ketosis. BHB represents approximately 70% of available ketone energy and is the main fuel the body uses in ketosis. Results reflect what's happening right now. Considered the gold standard for accuracy.
Urine Strips
Measures acetoacetate - a ketone the body expels. Results reflect what happened hours ago, not current levels. As the body becomes more efficient at using ketones, urine strips often show lower readings even when ketosis is deeper. Less reliable over time.
Breath Meters
Measures acetone, a byproduct of ketone breakdown. Readings can be influenced by hydration, alcohol, mouthwash, breathing patterns, time of day, and physical activity. Convenient for general trends, but less precise for tracking specific levels.
WHEN TO TEST:
Morning, before eating - for a consistent baseline. 2-3 hours after meals - to see how food choices affect ketosis. During extended fasts - to track depth of ketosis. When something feels off - to get a clear answer. When starting a new food or routine - to see how the body responds.
WHAT THE NUMBERS MEAN:
Below 0.5 mmol/L: Not in ketosis
0.5 - 1.0 mmol/L: Light ketosis
1.0 - 3.0 mmol/L: Typical target range for most keto goals
Above 3.0 mmol/L: Deep ketosis (common during extended fasting)
Consult a healthcare provider to determine a target range that works best for individual needs.
THE BOTTOM LINE:
Testing provides clarity. It turns "I think this is working" into "I know exactly where I stand." Accurate data makes everything easier.
