Keto Fish and Chips Recipe

You can still have your fish and chips on a Keto diet if you love the taste of fish and you're on a low-carb diet. Here's how to make the best Keto Fish and Chips recipe.

 

The crunchy coating of the fish and the dripping cheese give the fish its flavor. This recipe uses rutabaga chips instead of the traditional chips as a sideline, so your taste buds will be in awe.

 

Ingredients for Keto Fish and Chips

 

  1. Fish

For this recipe, we’re going to use cod fish which is rich in proteins and nutrients. It’s a great source of vitamins including Vitamin A, E, and C. Fish like cod are popular due to their versatility and mild flavor.

 

In spite of its relatively low fat content, this fish is quite healthy since it contains no high mercury levels like other sea fish.

 

Cod fish is also very keto-friendly. We aren’t going to use a battered or breaded coating because they aren’t low in carbs. Instead we are going to use eggs and almond flour for coating the fish.

 

  1. Almond Flour

The low carb content of almond flour makes it an excellent replacement for carb-heavy refined flours like all-purpose flour. It’s a rich source of fiber which keeps the net carb count low.

 

The health benefits of almond flour are quite impressive, with studies showing it may help to prevent various diseases.

 

  1. Rutabaga

Rutabaga is keto-friendly if only you consume it in moderation. 1 cup of rutabaga has 8.8 g of net carbs so you want to make sure that you use it in moderation to make fries. You can serve the fish with onion rings or green beans instead of rutabaga fries.

Keto Fish and Chips Recipe

You’ll need:

 

For Fish:

  • 1 ¾ cod fish fillet
  • 2 cracked eggs
  • 1 cup almond flour
  • 1 cup shredded parmesan cheese
  • ½ tsp. Onion powder
  • 1 tsp. Paprika powder
  • 1 tsp. Salt
  • ¼ tsp. Pepper
  • ¼ cup coconut oil
  • 1 lemon

 

For Tartar Sauce:

 

  • ¼ cup mayo
  • ½ cup sour cream
  • ½ tbsp. Curry powder
  • ¼ chopped pickles
  • Salt and pepper to taste

 

 

For Chips:

  • 1 ½ lbs. Rutabaga
  • 1 tbsp. Olive oil
  • Salt and pepper to taste

 

Directions:

 

  1. Set the oven and preheat to 400°F (200°C)
  2. To prepare the tartar sauce, take a small bowl and add all the ingredients. Mix and place it in the fridge
  3. To prepare rutabaga fries, cut them into chip slices. Take a baking pan and add a baking sheet along with parchment paper. Grease it with olive oil and place the chips. Add salt and pepper to taste.
  4. Bake the chips in the oven for 30-40 minutes until golden crisp. Put it aside once done.
  5. Now it's time to prepare the fillet fish. Cut it into fillet slices. Take a bowl and crack the eggs. Whisk the eggs until frothy.
  6. Take a plate and combine almond flour, paprika powder, onion powder, parmesan cheese and salt and pepper evenly.
  7. Coat the fish fillet one by one. First coat it with the almond flour mix and then dip it in the eggs and then coat again with the almond flour. Repeat this step for each piece of fillet.
  8. Take a pan and heat the oil. Cook the fish for 3 minutes on each side, until golden brown.
  9. Serve it with the rutabaga fries.
